Join the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine for a webinar releasing a new report on addressing the rising number of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in the United States.
One in five people in the United States will have an STI in a given year, with nearly 68 million infections estimated in 2018. STIs are often asymptomatic (especially in women) and are therefore often undiagnosed and unreported. Untreated STIs can have severe health consequences, including chronic pelvic pain, infertility, miscarriage or newborn death, and increased risk of HIV infection, genital and oral cancers, neurological and rheumatological effects.
Members of the committee who wrote the report, Sexually Transmitted Infections: Adopting a Sexual Health Paradigm, will give an overview of key issues, conclusions, and recommendations.
