ASTDA Elections

ASTDA is soliciting nominations for 5 open positions on the ASTDA Board of Directors, including 3 at-large positions and 2 early-career positions (no more than seven years from completion of training). We encourage current ASTDA members with interest in supporting the next generation of STI professionals to self-nominate. Healthcare providers, researchers, STI program staff, sexual health experts, and others who work in the STI field are welcome to apply by March 1, 2024. We particularly encourage nominations from individuals with expertise in sexual health, policy/advocacy, and social media/communications. To self-nominate, please provide a headshot and brief biography of less than 100 words describing your background in STI work and also your expertise in the specific areas of interest described above. After the nomination period, qualified individuals who meet the current needs of the Board will be put forward for consideration by the ASTDA membership in an election.

We are also accepting nominations for our four annual awards, to be presented at the 2024 STI Prevention Conference in Atlanta in September 2024. ASTDA awards recognize individuals who epitomize the Association’s mission to foster scientific knowledge, develop leadership, and champion practice in the field of sexually transmitted infections. Please see our website for more detail and prior winners. This year, we are seeking nominations for:

  • The ASTDA Distinguished Career Award is presented to a person with a long and extraordinary career in the STI field
  • The Jack N. Spencer Award is presented to a person with a long and extraordinary career in STI prevention, characterized primarily by outstanding commitment to program science
  • The ASTDA Achievement Award is presented to a person at mid-career, to acknowledge an outstanding body of work in STI or to an individual for a single major achievement in the field
  • The ASTDA Young Investigator Award is presented to a person engaged in outstanding work in the STI field who is no more than seven years from completion of training

Nominations are due March 1, 2024. They must include the CV of the nominee and a single, short (one-page maximum) letter summarizing why the nominee is being put forward. Current members of the ASTDA Board are not eligible for awards. Nominations will carry forward for a second year if the nominee does not win during this cycle.
